Home-made ~Tin Foil Tag

Howdy Crafters - I was searching You Tube wanting to find a tutorial on creating a tag from scratch using tin foil. I could not find one. I did view a tin foil tag creation but the tin foil tag was one that could be purchased.

I also found a couple tutorials using alcohol ink and StazOn Ink on tin foil and a tin foil canvas art work using alcohol inks.  The tin foil [Reynolds wrap] was glued to the canvas using Mod Podge.

After viewing all of those tutorials I decided to create my own Tin Foil Tag and this Frog Tag is my end results.

If you would like to view how I created this Tin Foil Tag, I took some photos along the way and they are posted below with instructions.

Thank you for stopping by and have a blessed day. Gail

Tin Foil Tag Tutorial - Photo's and instructions

I started with some recycled cardboard - this piece is cut 3 1/4 inches by 5 3/4 inches - I ran the cardboard through my Cuttlebug using a Tim Holtz Sizzix Tag Die.

I laid the cardboard on a piece of tin foil and brushed the front and back of the cardboard with Mod Podge so the Tin Foil would be glued to the cardboard - allow it to dry - 15 minutes or create a bunch and let them dry overnight - that is what I will do next time so I have tags on hand for future projects.

This is a photo of the Mod Podge brushed on the tag

I covered the cardboard with the Tin Foil - just folded the Tin Foil over the tag

After covering the cardboard with Tin foil I smoothed the tin foil the best I could - I allowed it to dry, and then I used scissors to trimmed off the excess tin foil around the tag

I took a hole punch and punched a hole at the top of the tag - I already had a hole in the cardboard from running it through the Cuttlebug with my tag die but needed to open it up after I covered my tag with the tin foil

I selected an Embossing Folder and placed my dried glued tin foil tag inside and ran it through the Cuttlebug- if you do not allow the Mod Podge to dry it will come out of the foil onto your embossing folder.

Here is what the front of my tag looked like after embossing it

Here is what the back of my tag looked like after embossing it

I used StazOn inks by running the ink over the embossing on the back and the front of the tag - the back does not have to be inked but I saw on a video where someone inked the back of their tin tag - this is the back of my tag.

I used the Saddle Brown StazOn Ink First on the tag and then just inked over the top sides of the tag with Forest Green StazOn ink - [just open up your ink pad and smooth it over the bumps] - easy peasy to do and it gives it a nice look- this is the Front of my tag.

My Next Step was to embellish the front of my Tag - I added some Ribbon and did some stamping on white cardstock with MFP Stamps - I fussy cut my frog, butterfly, and sentiment - I added them to the tag by using pop up tape

I had some left over die cut hearts and punch hearts from previous projects so I glued them on my tag for some added embellishments

Some things I would like to try:
* Alcohol Ink on the tin foil
* See if I can stamp on the tin foil
* Heat Embossing on the tin foil

Thank you for taking time to see what I created and I hope you will give it a try - it was not difficult and I do like the results - I am sure you can come up with more creative ideas - have a blessed day.
